Island City Vacation Rentals is owned and operated by Derek Dettman, a Fort Lauderdale native who has spent his career building deep expertise in South Florida real estate, property management, and the art of hospitality.

Meet Derek Dettman

Derek is a lifelong Fort Lauderdale resident with extensive experience across every dimension of South Florida real estate. As the founder of Island City Vacation Rentals, he leads a thoughtfully curated portfolio of short-term rental properties spanning Wilton Manors, Fort Lauderdale, and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Each home is selected and styled to deliver memorable South Florida stays.

In addition to his role as host and operator, Derek is a licensed real estate broker and property manager. He oversees a residential and commercial portfolio that gives him a comprehensive understanding of the neighborhoods, properties, and local resources that make South Florida one of the country's most desirable destinations.

Education & Background

Derek holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from the University of Miami (2007) and an MBA from the University of Florida (2010). His academic foundation in business strategy and operations informs the systems-driven, guest-first approach that defines Island City Vacation Rentals today.

Earlier in his life, Derek was a standout multi-sport athlete in high school, earning all-county recognition in football, soccer, and lacrosse. He briefly attended Amherst College before returning home to The University of Miami, a decision he describes as one of the best of his life.
